Laurence Guevarra | Purple Luffy Dominates the Flagship Battle!

About the Deck – Purple Luffy (OP05-060)

I played Purple Luffy, a deck focused on gaining Don advantage over your opponent and playing your curve ahead of schedule.
The strategy revolves around playing powerful threats such as:

- 4-cost Zoro
- 5-cost Sanji (draws 1 on attack if you have 8+ Don)
- 7-cost Luffy (Don -1 to call a 5-cost or lower Straw Hat, usually 5-cost Sanji)
- 7-cost Sanji (optional Don -1 or more, rests a 6-cost, and has rush)
- 9-cost Rush Luffy
- Katakuri 8k (an 8k blocker that adds 1 rested Don at the end of the turn and restands itself)
- Gum Gum Giant (for defense, guard for 4k, return 2 Don, discard 1, and draw 2)
- 4-cost Law (Don -1, randomly discards 2 cards from the opponent's hand when they have 7+ cards)

These cards allow me to build strong pressure with rush threats and disrupt my opponent's plays while maintaining strong defense.

Deck Choice

I picked Purple Luffy because it can go toe to toe with the current meta leaders, especially Blue Purple Luffy and Green Purple Luffy.
It has solid resource management, great tempo options, and strong match-finishing power through rush threats and hand control.

Preparation

I honestly didn’t practice much heading into the event—I was busy with work and playing PC games that week.
That said, I did my homework the night before by watching a few videos covering matchups I expected to face. That quick study ended up being super helpful on game day.

Match Rundown

Round 1: Red Shanks – Win (I went first)

A pretty standard match. I won the die roll, which gave me the mid-game advantage. I landed a couple of Luffys early,
though they got answered by Shanks 10. Still, Red Shanks lacks a strong draw engine, which worked in my favor—I simply outlasted him.
Gum Gum Giant was a clutch defensive tool that helped me close it out.

Round 2: Blue Black Usopp – Win (I went first)

I won the die roll again and went first. I was able to play Katakuri on my 3rd turn, followed by another one on the next turn.
Although my opponent eventually answered with 9-cost Stussy and Red Rock, I out-resourced them due to free blocks from Katakuri.
The combination of strong blockers and tempo advantage helped me secure the win.

Round 3: Green Bonney – Win (I went second)

Probably my worst matchup due to Bonney’s ability—pay 1 Don and rest a character or leader—which slows down tempo heavily.
I went second but stuck to curve and pressured the board consistently. My 9-cost Luffy was answered by Shanks 9, but my opponent didn’t
play Cavendish on curve—probably bad luck. A clutch Miss Finger trigger let me secure lethal and take the win.

Round 4: Green Purple Luffy – Win (I went second)

A top meta deck right now. My opponent played on curve and even used Gamma Knife to drop my Katakuri to 3k power.
Things got scary with triple Sanji Pudding, but I held the line with Gum Gum Giant. The turning point was a 4-cost Law that discarded
a restand Luffy from their hand. They couldn’t find another copy, and once they ran out of gas, I pushed for lethal.

Round 5: Blue Purple Luffy – Win (I went second)

Regarded by many as BDIF (Best Deck in Format). I lost the die roll and went second, which was rough since both decks rely on Don ramp.
I stuck to curve, but he answered with events like the 5-cost ramp + KO. I got Katakuri down but it got swung on with 17k power—too much to guard,
so I let it go. Luckily, my opponent didn’t develop the board that turn, giving me breathing room to build.
Later, the Sanji + Big Mom combo came online and I began losing on resources. My earlier pressure had forced him to guard a lot,
leaving him with just 2–3 cards, but he also had Gum Gum Giant, which helped him sustain. I misplayed by trying to contest the board instead of going face,
but I survived the kill turn thanks to all four Gum Gum Giants in hand. That let me live, and on my turn I closed it out.

Final Thoughts

Despite minimal preparation (shout out to Busoy for hosting 7 days to die!) and going second in my last three rounds, Purple Luffy delivered. The deck’s tempo, resource control,
and burst potential through rush threats and hand control make it a serious contender in this meta. Shoutout to Gum Gum Giant and 4-cost Law—the real MVPs.
It was exhausting but lots of fun. I had a blast navigating each round and overcoming challenges with my deck.
