I'm Matthew Marginet and I won with Green Purple Luffy for June's Flagship.
DECK CHOICE:
Green-Purple Luffy is considered to be one of the best decks in the format as it has a similar playstyle to the banned Red-Purple Law minus the built-in removal. I chose GP Luffy as it is one of my comfort decks and it performs very well into most matchups. The nature of the deck allows you to adjust between an aggressive and midrange playstyle depending on the matchup you are facing, and also has slots for tech cards, making it a very versatile deck.
PREPARATION:
The only thing I did to prepare for the event was add the new 1 cost green event, Dead Man's Game (OP12-037) which was the key card to winning my games. I didn't practice playing my new GP Luffy build as I was busy testing Blackbeard and PB Luffy with the new Starter Deck cards.
MATCH RUNDOWN:
Round 1: Red/Green Law (Going Second)
I was struggling in the early game as my hand was bricked during the first 2 turns with nothing to play, and got my life cards down to 1 before my opponent could reach 10 Don. Luckily, I was able to regain tempo after playing Electric Luna, and by chipping down my opponent's hand size by poking his characters on the board. I was also able to get 3 Gum Gum Giants which prevented my opponent from going lethal successfully.
Round 2: Blue/Purple Luffy (Going Second)
When it comes to this matchup, I always prefer to go second as I can have 3 characters on board by turn 3 if my searchers see the right cards. I was able to end the game quickly with the help of Dead Man's Game, resting my opponent's Katakuri Blocker and 1 Don prevented them from defending my attacks.
Round 3: Green/Purple Luffy (Going First)
My final match happened to be a mirror match against a skilled player who also knows how to pilot GP Luffy well. Both of us were able to establish a solid board but what won me the game was Dead Man's Game, resting the opponent's 2 Don disabled him from using Gum Gum Giant to hold off my final attacks, and I won.
Final Words:
Green-Purple Luffy is really a solid deck, and I doubt that it will fall off the meta unless Gum Gum Giant gets banned. With Dead Man's Game being added from OP12, you are able to end games quickly, further enabling the deck to go full aggro and give you a better chance against decks that rely on blockers and/or events.
